Colours (age 10)

By Ruth Calder Murphy (Arciemme)

Red is the colour of the velvety rose,

the tulip and the very cold nose.

Red is the colour of the post box bright,

red is the colour of fire light.

Yellow is the colour of the daffodil,

the colour of the sun in the sky,

yellow is the colour of the buttercup,

yellow is the colour of a cat’s bright eye.

White is the colour of new fallen snow,

the colour of the cold stars above,

white is the colour of the snowdrop small,

the colour of the turtle dove.

Orange is the colour of bricks in the wall,

the colour of a bonfire bright.

Orange is the colour of leaves in the fall,

the colour of a sunset night.
